OUR STORY

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

TH Brown was founded in 1911 in Port Pirie, South Australia, by Thomas Howard Brown. From those early days as a small country workshop, the business grew steadily, becoming one of Australia's most respected furniture makers.

In the 1950s, the brand entered its most iconic era under the guidance of the next generation brothers Peter and Napier Brown. Peter, a talented designer, shaped the creative direction of the brand, producing many of the pieces that are now considered icons of Australian mid-century design. Napier, with a sharp eye for opportunity, led the brand’s marketing building a national reputation for quality, innovation and modern style. Together, they positioned TH Brown as a leader in Australian furniture, with bar stools, coffee tables and dining pieces becoming fixtures in homes, cafés and magazines across the country.

These weren’t just well-made objects they were part of everyday life. Crafted in South Australia, loved for their simplicity, and passed down through generations.

As the furniture landscape shifted in later decades, TH Brown quietly stepped back. But great design never disappears. Collectors kept the pieces alive, and a new wave of interest began to grow.

In 2017, Simon Brown grandson of founder Thomas Howard Brown and son of designer Peter relaunched the brand with his wife, Toni Briggs-Brown. Their aim was simple: bring the classics back to life with the same craftsmanship and care. One piece in particular, the Danish Bar Stool, became one of the most recognisable Australian furniture designs of the era. It was the first piece reissued, and remains TH Brown’s best selling product to this day.
Simon has since retired, and today the brand is led by Toni continuing the legacy with a growing collection of reissued archival pieces and new designs in development, all made to order in Adelaide.
