The Crafting Process Behind Your Danish Bar Stool
Once your order is placed, your stool moves through a careful manufacturing process, shaped by skilled hands and finished to your chosen specifications.
The 6 to 8 week lead time allows us to make each stool properly. From timber selection and shaping through to upholstery, finishing and final checks.
Here is what happens along the way.
1. Your order is received and booked into production
Once your order is received, your Danish Bar Stool is booked into our Adelaide production schedule.
We then check that we have all the materials needed to create your piece, including the timber frame, foam, finish and upholstery you have selected. This ensures everything is ready before your stool moves into production.
2. The timber components are cut and shaped
The Danish Bar Stool has a distinctive sculptural form, with soft curves, angled legs and a gently supportive backrest.
To create this shape, the timber is cut, shaped and refined into individual components. Each part needs to be accurate, as the strength and balance of the stool depend on how the pieces come together.
3. The frame is sanded by hand
This step is one of the reasons the Danish Bar Stool feels so good to touch. The edges, curves and surfaces are worked carefully to create a smooth, tactile finish.
It takes time, but it is part of what gives the stool its quiet beauty.
4. The frame is assembled
After the frame is sanded and refined, the stool is carefully assembled.
This is the stage where the stool begins to take its recognisable form. The joins, angles and overall structure are checked throughout the process to ensure the frame is strong, stable and true to the design.
5. The timber is stained and lacquered
The timber frame is then stained in your selected finish.
Once the stain is applied, the frame is lacquered to help protect the timber and highlight the natural grain. This stage includes drying and curing time, which can vary depending on workshop conditions.
A durable finish cannot be rushed.
6. The seat is upholstered
While the frame is being finished, the seat is prepared and upholstered.
The cushioning is shaped for comfort, then covered in your chosen upholstery. Whether you have selected leather or another fabric, this stage brings warmth, texture and personality to the final piece.
7. The stool is assembled and checked
Once the finished frame and upholstered seat are ready, the stool is assembled.
Before it leaves our Adelaide workshop, each piece is carefully checked for structure, finish, comfort and presentation. We want the stool to feel as good as it looks.
8. Numbered and certified
Each Danish Bar Stool is individually numbered and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
It is our way of recognising the piece as part of TH Brown’s continuing design story.
Made properly, not quickly
Your Danish Bar Stool takes 6 to 8 weeks because it is made to order, not mass produced.
That time allows for timber work, hand sanding, staining, lacquering, upholstery, curing and final quality checks.
The result is a stool made with purpose.
A piece to sit on, lean into, run your hands over and live with for years.
