In 1911, TH Brown began crafting furniture for Australian homes.
This year, we celebrate 115 years and I want to mark it in a way that feels true to what TH Brown has always been: a brand shaped by design, craftsmanship, and the life lived around beautiful pieces.
Becoming ReFounder wasn’t a title I adopted lightly it was a decision. I chose to step in and carry this legacy forward, and I feel an enormous pride in doing so with the care and standards it deserves.
That’s why our 115th year is guided by one idea:
115 Years of Stories in the Making.
Because TH Brown has never only been about furniture. It has always been about the places our pieces help create homes built, rooms gathered in, businesses grown, communities shaped. The quiet moments and defining moments that happen around great design.
A design legacy that shaped Australian living
TH Brown is recognised as Australia’s oldest furniture brand, but what defines us is our design legacy particularly the work of Peter Brown, whose designs in the 1960s and 70s helped shape a distinctly Australian expression of modernism.
Sculptural yet practical. Confident, but never loud.
Pieces designed with real intention and made to last.
Why we reissue our archive
In a world that moves quickly, I believe there’s something powerful about slowing down and returning to what is truly timeless.
We reissue pieces from the TH Brown archive because exceptional design doesn’t have an expiry date. The back catalogue holds forms, proportions and details that feel just as relevant today as they did when they were first drawn.
Reissuing is our way of protecting Australian design icons and bringing them back into homes where they can be lived with, not simply admired from afar.
The makers behind the pieces
A TH Brown piece is shaped by hands by craftsmen who understand timber, upholstery and proportion in a way that can’t be rushed.
You feel that care in the finish. In the balance. In the way a piece sits in a room.
As we celebrate 115 years, it’s important to acknowledge that the legacy is not only in the designs it’s in the making.
Still in the making
Anniversaries can be about looking back.
But for me, this one is equally about what comes next.
As ReFounder of TH Brown, my commitment is simple: honour the archive, protect what makes these pieces iconic, and ensure the next chapter holds the same standard timeless design, integrity in making, and furniture that becomes part of life.
And I’ll be honest I still feel a genuine sense of pride when I see a TH Brown piece in a room. The proportion, the quiet confidence, the way it holds a space. It reminds me why I chose to do this, and why we don’t compromise on anything that carries the TH Brown name.
And quietly, behind the scenes, we are also in the early design phase of the first new TH Brown pieces in over 30 years. We are not rushing this, and I expect these designs won’t be ready for release until late 2027 because designing under the TH Brown name is a responsibility we take seriously, and nothing will be released until it meets our standard in every detail.
For me, that standard is non-negotiable:
-
Timeless design (not trend-led, not seasonal)
-
Sculptural presence — a piece that feels like a statement
-
True function and comfort — form and function in balance
-
Craftsmanship you can feel — every detail resolved
-
Versatility — designed to work across many interior styles, and across decades
If anything, this process has reminded me just how extraordinary the archive truly is — and why these reissues deserve their place in Australian homes today.
An invitation
This anniversary belongs to everyone who has been part of the TH Brown story the makers, the designers, the customers, the families, and the homes where these pieces have lived for decades.
If you own a TH Brown piece vintage or new I would genuinely love to hear your story.
Because this brand is not only 115 years old.
It is 115 years alive.
And the next chapter is still being made.
With gratitude,
Toni Briggs-Brown
